LAUREN ROUSSEAU
ATRIUM MAGAZINE
In January 2021, I became one of the founding members of Atrium Magazine, a nonfiction narrative magazine that aims to tell true Florida stories. Within its first year, Atrium Magazine won awards on the state and national level — including multiple Hearst awards.

For Atrium's inaugural issue, I spent six months writing, reporting and editing a story on a historically Black hotel being turned into a wine bar in an increasingly gentrified neighborhood. Though the hotel was frequented by legends like BB King and Ella Fitzgerald, much of the hotel's history was unreported. I sought to change that.

This story won a first place multimedia award from the Florida Magazine Association.
